"The first in Brennan's amazing new thriller series. Dive in and enjoy this nail-biter."--Catherine Coulter, NYT bestselling author of LABYRINTH

An edgy female police detective...An ambitious FBI special agent. Together they are at the heart of the ticking-clock investigation for a psychopathic serial killer. The bond they forge in this crucible sets the stage for high-stakes suspense.

Detective Kara Quinn, on leave from the LAPD, is on an early morning jog in her hometown of Liberty Lake when she comes upon the body of a young nurse. The manner of death shows a pattern of highly controlled rage. Meanwhile in DC, FBI special agent Mathias Costa is staffing his newly minted Mobile Response Team. Word reaches Matt that the Liberty Lake murder fits the profile of the compulsive Triple Killer. It will be the first case for the MRT. This time they have a chance to stop this zealous if elusive killer before he strikes again. But only if they can figure out who he is and where he is hiding before he disappears for another three years. The stakes are higher than ever before, because if they fail, one of their own will be next...

The Third to Die is a masterfully plotted mystery with engaging characters that promise to bring us plenty of entertainment. The mystery itself was smart as it was grisly with plenty of action to keep you engaged. There is a lot of profiling information but stops just shy of being too clinical.

I struggle to read books that employ multiple POVs and this book had a handful. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Kara and Matt but those are the only two I care to hear from outside of random chapters with The Killer. Catherine has her place but Kara and Matt have my heart. Even with the slower read time, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey. The ending was by far my favorite part, followed closely by Kara and her chameleon-like abilities!

Ultimately, I enjoyed the start to what should be a gripping new series featuring Matt Kosta and his team. Brennan really knows how to subtly turn up the desperation and make you feel like you are racing against time to help catch a killer and I’m ready to ride along with their team again! The ending had the perfect set up for the next book and I’m really wishing I had a release date to stalk for it!

**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
