This was a tough one to finish and review. Helltown tells the story of Tony Costa and his gruesome crimes against Christine Gallant, Sydney Monzon, Susan Perry, Patricia Walsh, and Mary Anne Wysocki. Ultimately, I am not one for fictionalized storytelling in my true crime. I don’t watch true crime shows with re-enactments and I noticed the fictionalized tilt in Helltown right away. The author takes a certain amount of liberty with recreating plausible dialogue and actions between Costa and […]

Review: The Survivors by Jane Harper (ALC)

Review: The Survivors by Jane ..

Mysteries don’t always have to be grim, but The Survivors definitely followed a heavy path. Harper’s atmospheric writing brought this small broken town to life within the first chapter. A town scarred by a devastating storm, deaths, and a missing girl, it really felt as thought the community had never recovered. Shanahan’s soothing narration truly elevated the haunting air that Harper managed to elicit. Coupled with each of the characters, no matter how small and unassuming, coming under suspicion at […]

Review: The Shadows by Alex North (ALC)

Review: The Shadows by Alex No..

I haven’t had the time to completely finish The Whisper Man yet, but when the chance to listen and review Alex North’s The Shadows popped up I had to do it. That synopsis alone had me hooked.  Atmosphere is everything in The Shadows. A decaying industrial town backed up to a forest that seems forbidding and unnatural. There isn’t anything spectacular or unique about the town beyond it’s slow, seemingly inevitable demise. North weaves a creepy, intriguing tale of murder complete […]

Blog Tour Book Review: The Third to Die by Allison Brennan (ARC)

Blog Tour Book Review: The Thi..

The Third to Die is a masterfully plotted mystery with engaging characters that promise to bring us plenty of entertainment. The mystery itself was smart as it was grisly with plenty of action to keep you engaged. There is a lot of profiling information but stops just shy of being too clinical. I struggle to read books that employ multiple POVs and this book had a handful. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Kara and Matt but those are the […]

Book Review: The Rules of Murder by Rob Sinclair (ARC)

Book Review: The Rules of Murd..

I loved the first DI Dani Stephens book to the point where I was watching Sinclair’s social media waiting for the cover reveal . It should be no surprise then, that I was absolutely thrilled when offered the chance to read and review Sinclair’s latest book The Rules of Murder (thank you Canelo)! Book one really focused on Dani, her recovery and return to the force. Changing the play in this book, Sinclair launches readers straight into a grisly murder. […]
