Mysteries don’t always have to be grim, but The Survivors definitely followed a heavy path. Harper’s atmospheric writing brought this small broken town to life within the first chapter. Come Join the Murder is a solid debut and I’m sure you can tell by the name and horror genre designation that this is a grim book. I spent the first 45% of this book in ugly tears. My daughter is just a hair younger than Oliver and this is one of my worst nightmares as a wife and mother.
