Top Ten Tuesday New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2022

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week you compile a list of ten books which coincide with that week’s theme. You can find everything you need to know about joining in here!

This is such a fun prompt because I feel like I don’t read a lot of new authors but it turns out that is definitely not the case. Over half of my reads were new-to-me authors in 2022! To narrow it down for this prompt, I’m going to introduce the ones that I will absolutely read again.

Number 1

Ali Hazelwood splashed onto the book scene with The Love Hypothesis a while back but it took me some time to get to it. You can read my incoherent scream of a review here or you can just walk away knowing that I ended up reading ever single one of her novellas and then Love on the Brain as soon as they were available to me. She is 100% an auto-buy author for me now.

Number 2

I picked up Anxious People, my first of Backman’s, and I was blown away by how seen I felt! This book made me laugh, cry, and rage. It was quite a trip! You can read my full review here. I ended up reading and reviewing  A Man Called Ove too. I enjoyed it but it didn’t shake me to my core like Anxious People.

Number 3

This was another library whim pick and I wish I hadn’t taken so long to read it! I feel so seen when I read Liese’s books. She is one of my top recommendations when someone asks me for an OwnVoices author with great anxiety and autism representation.

Number 4

I picked up this Trilina Pucci book on a whim because Mariel Pomeroy (featured below) recommended it with a gorgeous blush and promise that it was a great one-handed read. Can confirm, this was delightful and I can’t wait to read more!

Number 5

The Red Palace was my first foray back into YA and I’m really glad I picked this up. You can read my full review here and it is nothing but glowing! I plan on reading her backlist this year!

Number 6

I pick up Helfyre on a whim after seeing it mentioned by some knitting/book club acquaintances referencing it. I got sucked in and I am desperately awaiting the next Heffy book and anything else Murs puts out! I’m also a sucker for her book recommendations.

Number 7
The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe

Nikki St. Crowe’s The Never King has stuck with me. It was my first Peter Pan/Wendy retelling and it was something else.. I need to read the rest of the series. I hope it as enjoyable as the first!

Number 8
Magic Dark, Magic Divine by AJ Locke

A.J. Locke was one of the first new to me authors, and one of the first books, I read in 2022. I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel that is set to come out in April this year!

Number 9
The Beast of Beswick by Amalie Howard

Amalie Howard delivered the beauty and the beast retelling that I didn’t know I needed! Complete with amazing side characters and a heroine that was strong and funny without it being too modern for a historical romance.

Moon writes a solid monster smut! I didn’t really like that Esther seemed to have favorites but I enjoy a good sex positive romp. If I’m ever feeling the urge to read more big monster D energy then I’ll pick up the next one in the series!

Yes! It’s been fun to see others enjoying her work and going down author rabbit holes

  1. Backman is on my list today, too. I didn’t think he was an author I would like, but ANXIOUS PEOPLE convinced me. Such a great book! I haven’t read any others by Backman, but OVE is definitely on my TBR list.

    Happy TTT!

Backman is one of those authors I have to keep tissues on hand just in case. I hope you enjoy Ove when you get to it! I really enjoyed the audiobook
