Top Ten Tuesdays - Books I Meant to Read in 2023

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week you compile a list of ten books which coincide with that week’s theme. You can find everything you need to know about joining in here!

Truthfully, 2023 was a rubbish reading year so I have a huge stack of books that I wanted to get to but didn’t. Some of these were soft DNFs and others I just didn’t have a chance to open. Here are ten books I meant to read in 2023 that I still plan on reading this year!

1.) Star-crossed by Kerrigan Byrne and Cynthia St. Aubin

This is one of those moments where the release date slips past you and then you just… forget to read it? I started it and remember loving it but it got lost in the chaos that was… is my life. This one I am so excited for as I can see so much of myself in Lyra.

2.) Little Deaths by Nenia Campbell

With tags like dark, romance, erotic, and horror I couldn’t say no to this book making its way onto my TBR. This is another instance of “Start, Love, Forget.” I’m really looking forward to picking it up again. I haven’t read many, if any, books with the  older woman – younger man trope.

3.) A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel by KJ Charles

KJ Charles will be dancing onto my 2024 TBR as well starting with A Nobleman’s Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel! This one sounds so cute and follows a character from Secret Lives that I desperately wanted to have a HEA.

4.) Castle of Blood and Secrets by Michelle A. Darnell

I’m continuing with my foray into romantasy / paranormal with this indie debut! I love a good found family and the blurb for this one says “Found family, morally grey, and forgiveness.” Sign me up, Daddio.

5.) Wolfsong by TJ Klune

I have been meaning to read Wolfsong since October and it just keeps getting pushed off. Good news is this was one of my recommendations for my book club so I’ll have a great excuse to delve into Klune’s work again in the near future!

6.) Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

I will be hopping on to the romantasy bandwagon for this one. I tried listening to a sample of the audiobook but the narrator was a no go for me. I have a physical copy that has been staring at me accusingly so I’ll need to bump this one up in the queue!

7.) For the Fans by Nyla K.

For the Fans ended up on my TBR after Mariel Pomeroy (Helfyre and Honey) was destroyed by it. She will never steer me wrong.

8.) The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman

This doesn’t need an explanation if you’ve noticed my favorites from 2023. I’m excited to the back with the Thursday Murder Club!

9.) Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood

I preordered a copy of this after binging all of Ali Hazelwood’s work. I’m not convinced she could ever do wrong and I’m so excited to finally pick this up!

10.) The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson

If you are thinking, “wasn’t this on last January’s should have read list?” then… you’d be right. But I promised Mr. B I would finally get around to it so I will bounce between audio and ebook to get it done.

Have you read any of these? What books are you hoping to get to this year?

I hope you enjoy them when you get to them! I’ve loved everything I’ve read from them.
