Get to Know You Book Tag

I found this book tag while stalking over at Jillian the Bookish Butterfly Blog. I love reading the answers and getting to know the bloggers behind the reviews and thought it may be fun to give it a try over here!

Favorite book of all time

I don’t know if I can pick just one! Catch – 22 by Joseph Heller has been on my list of loves for over a decade but I have added so many to that list. I love too many!

Favorite book five years ago

Shoot, I think I had just moved to South Korea at the time so I wasn’t doing much reading. Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield is probably the best fit for that time of my life. It is slow to start but I loved reading about the Spartan women. I was ready to take on the world after reading it.

Favorite Duology/Trilogy/Series

The Pride Series by Shelly Laurenston. I feel like Laurenston truly found her voice by the second book (the first one, while amusing had some wrinkles). I have read the series twice so far this year and I’m already getting the itch to read it again. First I need to reread the first Honey Badger Chronicles to prepare for the next book coming out in March 2019 which is SO FAR AWAY!

Last book you read

I just finished an ARC of The Wolf and the Watchman by Niklas Natt och Dag. All I can say for sure right now is I’m not sure what to think…

Last book of poetry you read

It would have to be Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein for my daughter. I can only read Where’s Spot so many times before I’m ready to freak out.

What book most influenced your life?

Probably Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. Even all these years later I remember being struck by the desire to find my niche. Something that I excel at, enjoy, and that brings a little bit of joy into the world.

Book that made you ugly cry

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Thurston. Not a moment I am likely to forget. I made the mistake of reading the end of the book during a long run on a treadmill and all the feels made me cry like a weirdo. I’m 100% sure the other gym patrons (mostly military males) gave me a wide berth because I looked unhinged. It’s mortifying to think about.

Book that made you laugh

I read a lot of books that make me laugh! I truly enjoyed Tina Fey’s Bossypants. Reading it in her voice made it that much better.

Character you’d like to be for a day.

I’d love to be Kate O’Hare for a day, jetting around trying to “catch” Nick Fox and running some not quite sanctioned cons.

Book so good you dreamt about it

I honestly can’t think of any! I do need to be careful about reading thrillers close to bed time as I am more likely to have nightmares.

Book you DNF’D

Yikes. I tried (twice) to read Into the Darkness by K.F. Breene but I just couldn’t get into it. I did enjoy her Fire and Ice Trilogy featuring Reagan but this one was a bust for me.

What book are you most excited to read?

I am so excited for Shelly Laurenston’s In a Badger Way that I can’t even.

I loved Shen in the last book so much that my daughter’s stuffed panda was renamed Shen. I can’t wait to see the relationship between him and Stevie! Also, I need Max’s book pronto.

That’s all! Happy Reading!
