BESummer 2019: A to Z Survey – Book Tag

Posted July 29, 2019 by Alana in Book Reviews / 0 Comments

Gentle Readers,

I think it is time to break from reviews for the moment and do a bookish tag for BE Summer 2019. I’m departing from the summer theme simply because I’ve been hoping to do this tag created by Jamie over at The Perpetual Page-Turner! I love reading her thoughts on the books she reads along with her journey through motherhood. More importantly, I like that she doesn’t sugar coat Motherhood but that is a conversation for another time. Let’s get down to it!

A to Z

Author you’ve read the most books from:

Probably Janet Evanovich. I’ve read almost all of the Stephanie Plum books (including novellas), the Max Holt series, the Wicked Series, Knight and Moon, and Fox and O’Hare. They are easy, fun reads that don’t require brain power. Perfect if you are experiencing some serious Mom Brain.

Best Sequel Ever:

I tend not to rank books as “best ever” but I thoroughly enjoyed The Undoing by Shelly Laurenston. Jace is a total badass.

Currently Reading:

The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary. I am loving it so far!

Drink of Choice While Reading:

Morning – Coffee / Water

Afternoon – Water then maybe wine

Evening – Usually wine if I’ve hit my water quota.

E-reader or Physical Book?

Ereader hands down. I am constantly on the move with a toddler and physical books are not easy to tote around while wrangling my feral child.

Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated In High School:

I didn’t date much in high school buuuuut probably Caleb from Parental Guidance.

Glad You Gave This Book A Chance:

I have surprisingly large list but most recently Cryptofauna by Patrick Canning and Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.

Hidden Gem Book:

Cryptofauna  by Patrick Canning for sure. This will definitely be a book I reread in the future.

Important Moment in your Reading Life:

Rediscovering reading after my daughter was born. She was the sort of child that refused to sleep without being held (turns out its a medical thing and not complete trolling, although she is a troll) which means I had to stay awake. Enter, Base Library then Kindle Unlimited, and Overdrive!

Just Finished:

Small Potatoes: mouthwatering musings of a misanthrope by Sarah Hunt. Hysterical and I want her to be my new best friend.

Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:

I will run for the hills from Christian Fiction and Self-Help. I also don’t care to read romance that deals with pregnancy/accidental baby nonsense.

Longest Book You’ve Read:

Shoot, maybe Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky?

Major book hangover because of:

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb

Number of Bookcases You Own:

2 adult bookcases. Erb has one is her room but clearly those are hers.

One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller

Preferred Place To Read:

In a perfect world, curled up in front of a heat source or next to my husband. These days that never happens.

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read:

The Things They Carried is full of quotes that stay with me. I won’t share my number one as it is gruesome but here is another of the quotes that stays with me:

“They were afraid of dying, but they were even more afraid to show it.”

Reading Regret:

Not continuing to read as much after high school. A lot of my hobbies were pushed to the side until well after I was married partially due to the amount of reading I was doing for my bachelors. I feel like I’ve missed out on so many books!

Series You Started And Need To Finish(all books are out in series):

I need to finish the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews for sure!

Three of your All-Time Favorite Books:

This will change depending on the day but always high on the list are: Catch-22The Things They Carried, and Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen.

Unapologetic Fangirl For:

Christina Lauren for sure, but I have a lot of authors that I  auto-buy.

Very Excited For This Release More Than All The Others:

Badger to the Bone (Honey Badger Chronicles #3) by Shelly Laurenston. I have been WAITING for Max’s book and I’m so excited for next March.

Worst Bookish Habit:

I mean… Some fellow readers think its a bad habit to read more than one book at a time. At any given time I usually have 3 or 4 books going and I get squirrelly and request happy on Overdrive/NetGalley if I don’t have lots of options available.

X Marks The Spot: Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book:

Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto

Your latest book purchase:

The Cupcake Caper by Kelle Z Riley

ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up WAY late):

Sinful Empire by Meghan March

That's it! If you want to do this tag, consider yourself It!
