Warning: Workplace flirtation may cause side effects.

Super-geek physician Saam Sherazi, M.D., is clueless about anything that can’t be learned from a textbook. Most people assume he’s an intellectual a-hole with a God complex, but Saam doesn’t need a sparkling bedside manner to treat his patients. Besides, he’d rather not encourage the countless women who are solely attracted to the two little letters at the end of his name—something that’s rubbed him the wrong way ever since he finished med school. But when Lorie Braddock walks into Saam’s office, he finds himself wanting to rub her all sorts of right.

At twenty-five, former beauty queen Lorie Braddock is finally living life on her terms. She’s moved to the big city, landed her dream job, and traded her titles and tiaras for power suits and promotions. But while Lorie’s sprinting up the corporate ladder, her dating life is guided by one simple rule: Don’t dip your pen in the company ink. Until Dr. Saam Sherazi starts invading her thoughts . . . and steaming up her phone with the kind of sexting that makes her want to rewrite all her rules.

Evie Clarie’s red-hot romances can be enjoyed together or separately: LET’S TALK ABOUT SEXT • I WANNA SEXT YOU UP

I really wanted to love this book but I found myself struggling to finish.

The pacing didn’t work for me and I wasn’t able to connect with the characters. Out of the two, I enjoyed Saam’s perspective the most, especially in his introverted / socially awkward moments. This isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy the relaxed Saam, where he was willing to talk and references to him being a doting Uncle. I just found the awkward interactions endearing.

I didn’t feel the characters were developed enough. Overall, we get these sketches of the lives of Lorie and Saam but we don’t get the depth that comes from family background supported by relationships. The closest Saam came was the phone calls with his twin and I thoroughly enjoyed those moments. I didn’t connect with Lorie. I didn’t follow the correlation between her burning to succeed in her pharma sales and the apparent drama with her family. As the book progressed, I couldn’t find it in myself to sympathize with her. I think I was more under the expectation that there would be flirty texts and some serious chemistry and tension between the two but I was underwhelmed. The sexting that did happen was rather ordinary and the relationship itself was lukewarm.

There was a lack of continuity with both characters but the issues with Saam bugged me the most. He was able to suddenly shift from barely holding a conversation with Lorie to full court press pursuing her.

I loved the idea of this sort-of forbidden romance but the execution was off. I would give the author’s work another try but unfortunately this book was a bust for me. I may try Evie Claire’s work in the future, but in the meantime this one didn’t work for me.

About Evie Claire

Evie Claire lives in Athens, GA with her husband, two daughters and one very spoiled rescue dog. After graduating from the University of Georgia she worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative before becoming a writer.

An avid equestrian, devoted wino, coffee snob, and occasional runner, Evie is in a monogamous relationship with her favorite yoga pants. When not chasing toddlers or writing, Evie can be found nursing her online shopping addiction, planning elaborate DIY projects that never happen, and discreetly eavesdropping on the juicy conversations of local college students for inspiration. She can tie a cherry stem in a knot with her tongue, counts afternoon naps among life’s great indulgences, and randomly belts out the whistle solo from GNR’s Patience… because why not?

Evie obsessively stalks her favorite Hollywood gossip sites and lives life by one simple rule: If you don’t have anything nice to say, come sit next to me!
