What Happened on Box Hill is a fun cozy mystery with an Austen inspired characters within Greek organizations. I’ve only managed to read one Austen book, Pride and Prejudice, so many of the fun nods to Austen were completely beyond me. I recognized names, but that’s about it. So, with that said, I think an Austen fan would thoroughly enjoy the inspiration Gilliland pulled from original works. This has a very “Murder on the Orient Express” Hercule Poirot vibe. The […]

I had the hardest time classifying this book. It has magic, which makes me leans towards fantasy, but is absolutely a cozy mystery. So let’s go with a magical cozy. Thank you to the author for sending an advanced copy for review!  What I loved most about Falling Into Magic was the premise. Who wouldn’t love the idea of a magical town nestled in it’s own dimension, with comfortable weather, lots of hiking and a house that custom designs your […]

Written as letters penned to a mysterious Lucy, This Little Dark Place, is a story being told by the main character Daniel. I didn’t have any big expectations for this tale beyond expecting it to be told in present tense. Instead, we are treated to Daniel’s version of past events. It was a clever approach on Hatch’s part and I enjoyed the style once I adjusted to the abrupt switches from present to past. Honestly, I didn’t particularly like the […]

Book Review: Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye by Victoria Laurie

Book Review: Abby Cooper, Psyc..

This is my first book for the Cruisin Through Cozies 2019 Reading Challenge hosted over at Socrates Book Reviews. Abby Cooper: Psychic Eye follows a psychic intuitive named, you guessed it, Abby Cooper. Abby, though apparently being quite talented, fails to predict her client’s murder and ends up bumbling through the investigation. Of course the lead detective on the case happens to be the handsome man she went on a blind date with earlier in the week and he is not buying what she is selling.
