Book Review: The Bard’s ..

I don’t read a lot of high fantasy these days but Brian D. Anderson’s newest book sounded interesting to both myself and Mr. B! I mean Mariyah’s family does own a vineyard after all. The Bard’s Blade reads a lot like a young adult rather than adult fiction. Anderson’s writing toes the line with beautiful writing being almost too descriptive but he some how managed to pull me in with the lovely, peaceful descriptions of Vylari and the brutality of […]

Review: Ignite the Stars by Maura Milan

Review: Ignite the Stars by Ma..

Ignite the Stars first popped up on my radar after I read a review from a fellow book blogger. I wish I could remember who, because I am so happy this underrated gem ended up on my TBR! I actually received a physical copy of Ignite the day after I received an ARC from Albert Whitman through Netgalley. This worked out because as soon as I finished binge-reading Ia’s story, I immediately began harassing Mr. B to read it so […]

ARC Review: Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center

ARC Review: Things You Save in..

First, I want to thank the team at St. Martin’s Press for sending me an advanced copy to read and review. I am pleased to say that I absolutely adored this book. I read it in two sittings which is a feat when you have […]

Billed as similar to Alice in Wonderland and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Patrick Canning gives his readers a cheerful “Have fun!” before shoving us off a cliff into a bizarre world filled with magic, sock obsession, and some wicked humor. Canning’s unique writing style quickly built up this game of Cryptofauna in what should have been an ordinary world. We learn, much like the protagonist Jim, by trial and error as we stretch our imaginations to accommodate Canning’s clever […]

ARC Review: The Flight Girls by Noelle Salazar

ARC Review: The Flight Girls b..

An inspiring tale of bravery, friendship, and love, The Flight Girls is a stunning debut that chronicles one young woman’s path to join the Women Airforce Service Pilots program during WWII. Each of the characters felt real, as though we are watching history play out. Admittedly, Salazar takes some timeline liberties but I don’t believe this adversely impacts her approach to the topic. Her casual writing style makes this piece of historic fiction approachable for most readers. While often my […]
