Top Ten Tuesday New to Me Authors Discovered in 2021
New to Me Authors Discovered in 2021 - Top Ten Tuesday

Hello everyone! It is Tuesday again which means it is time for another top ten post! For those of you that don’t know, Top Ten Tuesday (created by The Broke and the Bookish) is over at Artsy Reader Girl. Each Tuesday brings a new prompt to list your top ten (2, 5 or 20) books.

This week’s prompt is “New to Me Authors Discovered in 2021.” I stumble into new authors regularly so my twist for this prompt will be new-to-me authors I discovered last year that I really enjoyed and hope to read more from this year!

I Kissed an Earl (and I Liked it) by Merry Farmer
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Her Pretend Christmas Date by Jackie Lau
The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix

Genre-wise, these authors are all over the place! I picked up a Merry Farmer book after seeing her work recommended in some of the historical romance groups I’m a part of. I loved how light and funny the writing was and adored the characters. Andy Weir is a well-known name in science fiction circles, but this was my first book of his and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really want to pick up more of Jackie Lau’s work this year because Her Pretend Christmas Date was fabulous and exactly the sort of brain candy I love to read between heavy reads.

Grady Hendrix’s writing is fascinating and I am currently reading their latest book Final Girl Support Group

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor
Stalked by the Kraken by Lillian Lark

I loved Okorafor’s world building in Binti and hope to explore more of their backlist in 2022! Lillian Lark’s monster romance (Kraken!) was so much fun and the next Monstrous Matches book is on my radar and coming in hot.

Why Mummy Drinks by Gill Sims
Corrupt by Penelope Douglas
The Layover by Lacie Waldon

Gill Sims absolutely nailed parenting and all the baggage that comes with it (including those bags under your eyes). I want to read the next in the series too!

Penelope Douglas came onto my TBR by way of book blogger reccs and I think I ended up reading at least 4 of her backlist in 2021. I want to read more in 2022 because the tension and heat in these dark romances… chef’s kiss.

Lacie Waldon’s debut, The Layover, was so much fun and I’m excited to have an arc of her next book to read! And finally, I picked up TJ Klune’s work after seeing so many raving reviews for Linus and Co and I adored it. So many lovable characters, flaws included, left me feeling cozy as I turned the last page.

Did you find any great new-to-you authors in 2021?

Anonymously, Alana

I read both The Martian and Project Hail Mary last year and PHM was definitely my favorite!
