Shelf Control

Shelf Control is a weekly celebration of the unread books on our shelves created and hosted by Lisa @ Bookshelf Fantasies. Pick a book you own but haven’t read, write a post about it (suggestions: include what it’s about, why you want to read it, and when you got it), and link up!

It is time for Shelf Control round two! This week I’ve chosen another book gifted to me almost ten years ago that I still haven’t touched.

Mystic Warrior
Author(s): Tracy & Laura Hickman
Published: 2005 (Grand Central Publishing)
Length: 528

Goodreads Synopsis: “An expansive new saga chronicling the world-altering changes that take place as three connected universes – the Human world, the Goblin world, and the Faery world – are slowly drawn together. In Book 1, young Galen Arvad, a human with magical powers, must avoid the ritual that puts those with such talents to death. It seems that in the eyes of the community magic is a sign of lunacy, and in a yearly ritual the local “crazies” are offered up to the Dragon Priests. Having successfully dodged the “elections” for many years, Galen is suddenly captured and hauled away with others that are deemed “insane.” Now as Galen’s wife, Berkita, and his friend, Cephas the dwarf, set off to rescue him, Galen learns of the fate that awaits him… a fate far worse than even his own death.”

Every time a read a fantasy synopsis that involves dragons I have this booming narrator in my head, not unlike the ones we hear in movie trailers. It never fails to make me giggle and I’m not positive as to where I picked up this habit. Enough of that though, where did this book come from?

How and When I got it:

I’m not quite sure how I came upon owning this book but I suspect my boyfriend (now husband) bought the book for us to read together. We used to take turns reading out loud when we first started dating and he has a soft spot for fantasy and sci-fi. Maybe I will have to start advocating for a bookish date night as the tiny one gets older!
