Arsenic and Old Lace Tag

Hello Everyone!

It is my turn to host for Bookending Autumn!! I’m so happy to have you here to see this attempt at an original book tag and, hopefully, partake of some of the fun! Bookend events is hosted by the delightful duo Sam @ Fictionally Sam and Clo @ Cuppa Clo.

Arsenic and Old Lace

The old film Arsenic and Old Lace featuring Cary Grant has been a favorite film of mine for ages. I first watched it when Mr. B was deployed while spending a lowkey Halloween with a girlfriend. We had wine, delicious food, and best of all I wasn’t forced to play board games since someone’s spouse was willing to play for me. For years now, I always make it a point to watch it on or around Halloween.

Mortimer Brewster

Book with a hero / heroine that can be a bit extra (over the top)

The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

When crafting this tag, Monty was the first character that popped into my head when I was comparing Mortimer to my favorite fictional characters.

“I swear, you would play the coquette with a well-upholstered sofa.”
“First, I would not. And second, how handsome is this sofa?”

Monty definitely cracks me up even when he is just so intent on avoiding serious conversations.

Elaine Harper

A book or series that you think is underrated

Unlovable by Cynthia St. Aubin

I have plenty of books and series that I adore that I feel don’t receive near the amount of love they should. This time I want to highlight Cynthia St. Aubin’s The Case Files of Dr. Matilda Schmidt, Paranormal Psychologist #1). These books are ridiculous, very similar to Janet Evanovich’s style and they are so easy to binge read.

Aunt Abby

A book with a character that is sweet, maybe a bit ditzy, but you adore all the same.

The Baron and the Enchantress by Paullett Golden

Walter, dearest Walter! He is just so ridiculously sweet for a male lead. It has been a couple months since reading this gem but I still take time to sigh quietly when I think of his adorable efforts to woo his lady love. Swoon-worthy and adorable!

Aunt Martha

A historical fiction novel (YA / Romance / etc) that you loved

Spellbound by Allie Therin

I have SO MANY historical fiction novels that I have loved but I definitely want to highlight this gem. Drunk Alana put this book on hold from the library without knowing a thing about it and I am so glad she did because was everything I didn’t know I needed! It is a great way to get your feet wet with historical fiction, especially if you enjoy paranormal/fantasy novels. Plus, it is set in the exciting 1920s with speakeasies!

Teddy “Roosevelt” Brewster

A book or a series with a lot of hype, deserved or not

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

When I first started blogging, I was a bit overwhelmed with the sheer amount of YA books that were being shouted about. Fangirl was a last ditch effort for me to try the YA/NA genres as a whole. I’m happy to say that I adored this book. In the interest of full disclosure, I skipped most of the fan fiction bits because those just weren’t for me but I’m sure fans of Harry Potter would love those parts.

Officer O’Hara

A book or series that never fails to make you laugh

One for the Money by Janet Evanovich

I first started reading the Stephanie Plum series way back in my freshman year of high school. I still love to revisit the Plum family and all the hysterical side characters. I’m not sure how Evanovich is still churning out Plum books though. When I worked in parking for a baseball team, my co-worker and I would take turns reading these books out-loud all summer!

Jonathan Brewster

A book featuring a villainous family member

Hot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston

This one is courtesy of Mr. B. He is all about complex heroes and villains so its no surprise to me. This one, I am going to go with Shelly Laurenston’s Hot and Badgered. Charlie, Stevie, and Max’s Dad definitely tries to be villainous even if he fails horribly.

Dr. Einstein

A book with a loveable sidekick

Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Peanut never fails to crack me up. If I’m going to be haunted, I want it to be by Peanut. I frequently would interrupt my husband to read him lines that probably made zero sense out of context. Comes with the territory of living with a book lover!

Let's see your cast! Don't forget to tag me so I can see your answers!
